ACT’s National Conferences 2008 PDF Print E-mail

ACT (Association for Children’s Palliative Care) will be holding two summer conferences this year in England and Scotland. Both these conferences will be focusing on developing and strengthening children’s palliative care networks, and delegates will hear about the plans to improve a care pathway approach to ACT’s work with children and families.

The conferences will also highlight how professionals can get involved in the ACT and ACH Mapping Project - Making Children with Life-Limiting Conditions Count. Delegates will be able to view the new Talk About Change DVD produced by film-makers the Kosh and supported by ACT. The film was made by young people with life-limiting conditions and aims to show the reality of making the transition from childhood to adulthood knowing that you have a life-limiting condition.

The First Scottish Children’s and Young People’s Palliative Care Network National Conference will be on the 3rd of June at the Carlton Hotel in Edinburgh. Delegates can join with ACT and the new Scottish Children’s and Young People’s Palliative Care Network’s (SCYPPCN) professionals and practitioners. Delegates will be able to meet the newly appointed Scottish Nurse Consultants and join the discussion with them – A New Vision for Scotland. The Keynote speakers will include Rory Farrelly, National Advisor (Scotland) to Chief Nursing Officer for Children’s and Young People’s Nursing. The delegate rate is £30 for SCYPPCN members and £90 for non-members.

England’s National Conference ‘Networks, Pathways and Maps: Navigating our way to Better Care: Better Lives’ will be held at the NCVO Conference Suite, Regent’s Wharf, London on the 9th of June. At the conference we will discuss how we can make the most of the latest children’s palliative care policy developments in England, including Aiming High and Better Care: Better Lives. The conference will also explore sexuality issues for children and young people with life-threatening conditions. Heather Wood, Chief Executive of Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity, and Chair of ACT will be the Conference Chair. The conference will cost £30 for ACT members and £90 for non-members.
