Are you a parent or family member providing care for a child with a life-threatening or life-limiting condition?

Do you deliver or support children’s palliative care services for the under 25s?

Do you want to learn new skills to help support children and young people – but can’t afford the training?

National children’s palliative care charity ACT (Association for Children’s Palliative Care) has launched a new training grants programme to help families, carers and professionals working in the field to help enhance their skills, knowledge and competencies.

The ACT Children’s Palliative Care Training Grant Programme, funded by The True Colours Trust, aims to help support best practice and specialist knowledge in caring for children with life-limiting conditions by providing small one-off grants of up to £250 to individuals and agencies who wouldn’t otherwise be able to access specialist training.  We will also pay a maximum of £50 towards your travel for attending the event.

ACT will consider grant applications for training, events, conferences and seminars that meet the following criteria:

For professionals: Training that will help to share best practice and to enhance the knowledge, skills and competencies of those working in children’s palliative care. The training should also meet one or more of the standards of support and care outlined in the ACT Charter for Life-limited Children and their Families. See: http://www.act.org.uk/content/view/37/138/

For parents, carers and close family members: We also want to fund training, conferences or events that will provide families with information or support that will help their child/children, increase their skills and confidence in caring for a child, or support their wider family.

Your stories

ACT works hard to raise awareness of the needs and experiences of children with life limiting conditions and their families so we can lobby to improve services and ensure that children and their families receive the best quality of life and care.

One of the ways that we can really change hearts and minds is by working proactively and positively with the media – a powerful mechanism for conveying the realities of living with a life-limiting or threatening condition, or caring for a child or young person. But we need your help. If you or a family member has a child or children with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition and would like to share your own personal story please contact ACT.

If you feel able to help in anyway, please do get in touch.  There are lots of ways that you can get involved – perhaps providing a story for our website, or our family newsletter – “ACT 4 families”, or being interviewed for a feature in a magazine, news story or radio broadcast.  If you do decide that you want to get involved please do get in touch by calling Myra at ACT on 0117 922 1556 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Please be assured we will never print your story without your permission or give out your details to the media without checking with you first.
